Cossor 501AC
One of many post-war receivers in the "MELODY MAKER" range. This AC Mains valve set employed long, medium & short wavebands. There were also variations in valve line-up used in this model
(cossor loctal range/cossor octal range/and a B8A type range), and obviously requiring their different passive component values (resistors & capacitors), and often these required
modifications were not carried out. Recently, I was asked to repair a model 501, which was very poor in operation. It turned out that the set employed cossor
octal range, but was wired up for B8A type valves. Luckily, there was a list of components to modify from one range to another, and the set worked very well indeed after that ! Just shows how you can get "caught out" ! . The 501 was made in 1950, and was based on an earlier model (494), which was made in
1949
